winning the validator at monash generator

SyncPay won The Validator at Monash Generator.

The programme taught me to separate what I believe from what I can prove. I walked in with an MVP. What I didn't have was enough real conversations to fully validate the pain points I was building for.

The biggest shift was learning to explain the problem without mentioning the solution first. Not "here's what I built, do you like it?" but "walk me through what happens at tax time" — and seeing if people truly feel the pain before I tell them how I fix it. Different approach, completely different answers.

I rewrote the problem statement like 20 times. The version that won opened with a $22.50 coffee transaction at a Fitzroy cafe, not a wall of national statistics. If the person reading it can't picture the problem in ten seconds, the solution doesn't matter yet.

Receipt reconciliation is a pain point whether the merchant handles it or their accountant does. Either way, hours get wasted, deductions get missed, and paper receipts end up in landfill. SyncPay sits between the payment and the proof so neither side has to chase it.

The prize money will be used for promotional outreach to further validate and onboard beta testers.
